Changes To Facebook Events – Perhaps One To ‘Decline’

In the last week Facebook have made some tweaks to certain features that aren’t going down exceedingly well with the general populus.

Changes made to the Events feature were intended to make replying as Not Attending to an event invitation ‘less insulting’. TechCrunch described how Facebook changed its Event pages “to hide people who explicitly decline invitations. You can still find out who couldn’t just be cordial and leave the invitation pending by drilling into the renamed “Going”, “Maybe” and “Invited” categories.”

However, the bulk of the comments beneath the article suggest that people still believe it is more rude to not inform a host as to whether or not you are coming, especially when provisions, ie catering, will be dependant upon the number and type of responses received.

However, the main gripe with the update is the apparent ambiguity of whether you have actually RSVP’d as attending or not. In an attempt to make it easier to find the Attend button, a highlighted blue “Join” button has taken its place. I know, it seems ludicrous to me as well. Am I already attending? I haven’t clicked “Maybe” or “Decline”, and they’re still in grey. So perhaps I must have inadvertently responded already? Nope, a small green tick appears in the default blue “Join” button, indicating when you have confirmed your attendance. All seems rather unnecessary to be honest.

Anyway, they did manage to integrate a useful new addition. If you tag a certain Place as the location of your Event, Facebook intuitively displays a Bing map with a quick link to directions for your guests. Pretty cool.

Have any of you had experience of the new Events feature? How are you finding it? Lets us know in the comments section below.

  1. Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this site.
It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s hard to get
that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and appearance.
I must say you have done a very good job with this.
Also, the blog loads super fast for me on Chrome. Outstanding
    Blog!
