New LinkedIn Homepage Layout Draws Upon Aspects Of Facebook and Google+

LinkedIn has given its homepage an overhaul this week, drawing on the likes of Facebook and Google+ for inspiration. The new design will be rolling out over the next few weeks, so don’t be surprised if you’re not seeing the updated layout just yet.

Much like Facebook’s news feed, the new LinkedIn homepage features more relevant updates towards at the top of the page, as well as highlighting comments by giving them a light blue background to contrast with the mainly white theme of the site. There is also a line at the top of the stream that lets users know how many people have commented and liked the post – an aesthetic touch that Facebook users will be very familiar with.

This might sound like a carbon-copy of Zuckerberg’s network, but it its decidedly less cluttered, giving it a feel more akin to Google+. Well, that and the fact that there is a black band across the top featuring headers such as “Profile”, “Home” and “Contacts”.

Explaining the changes in a blog post, Caroline Gaffney – a product manager at LinkedIn – said: “This simpler and cleaner design makes it easier to navigate the page and quickly find the updates you’re looking for – whether that’s a news article your boss has recently shared or it’s to see who has just started a new job.”

If the update is yet to hit your own account, head over to Mashable where you can view the new LinkedIn homepage layout in contrast with the old version.
