Instagram users will soon find that they have web profile pages full of their photos. Rather unsurprisingly, given the recent acquisition, the profiles look very similar to Facebook Timelines, and will be a great way for people to browse the uploads of other Instagram users and brands.
I’m yet to receive the Instagram profile page, but they should roll out to all users later this week. Mashable were given early access, and they have reported that the top header (think cover picture on Facebook Timeline) is a rotating array of photos. Any of these can be clicked on to open up the singular much like the existing standalone view. Here’s how the Nike Instgram profile page looks:
These pages also allow users to like or comment on a photo, and you can also start to follow another user directly from their web profile page. Further down the page, the similarities to Facebook Timelines continue with the chronological display of your Instagram shots, with each month having its own heading. Another cool feature is that by hovering over an image, you are shown when the image was taken and how many likes it has accrued.
We think the new profile pages are a good idea, as previously there wasn’t an easy way to view your own photos online. However, we’ve actually been working on the next release of SocialSafe, which makes your offline experience of Instagram much more enjoyable. Here’s a sneak preview of how you can view your Instagram photos offline (and photos from other networks) when you don’t have access to the internet:
