Facebook Scam Alert: HCG Diet Drops

Some of you may have already seen this, but we try to make a point of blogging about the various Facebook scams that post spurious links from hacked accounts so you all know what to look out for.

These scams normally involve offers for free vouchers or a free iPad, and sometimes miracle cures or medicines. One that has been doing the rounds lately is a post about HCG drops and their incredible weight loss powers:

If you click on the link you are taken to a page that looks like a news site with an infomercial about the HCG Ultra drops. The message supposedly posted by your friend on Facebook will undoubtedly tell you that they’ve lost over a stone in 13 days, regardless of their build.

I’m not quite sure how this particular scam spreads, but I’d imagine that if you start clicking around on the HCG site there will be some sort of special offer or otherwise that requires you to login through Facebook and they’ll then take the liberty of posting about their product from your account.

If this has happened to you, then you’d be advised to delete the post, change your password and make sure that you are using secure browsing on Facebook.
